Happ or INCY: Which VPN Client to Choose in 2026

Two VLESS clients compared: availability in Russian app stores, adding a subscription, protocols, routing, privacy. With honest pros and cons for each.

Published

The short answer: on an iPhone with a Russian Apple ID, pick INCY — it's in the Russian App Store, while Happ has been removed from it. On Android, either works. On desktop and Apple TV, Happ is the more mature option. Below is why, and what else differs.

How a client differs from a VPN service

Happ and INCY don't provide a VPN. They are client apps: you add a subscription from a service (for example, the link from the Buzz VPN bot), and the app establishes the connection. Both run on the same engine — the open-source Xray-core — and both understand VLESS with REALITY masking, the protocol Buzz VPN uses. That's why speed and resistance to filtering depend first of all on the server, not the client. The differences are in availability, features and interface details.

How the protocol itself works is covered in the article about VLESS and REALITY.

Where to download in Russia

This is the main difference today.

Happ. The global Happ — Proxy Utility is available in App Stores outside Russia. The Russian listings were removed several times in 2026; the latest, Happ Lite, appeared on 12 September and disappeared a few days later. With a Russian Apple ID, Happ on iPhone is now reachable only through a foreign account. Android is simpler: Google Play and the APK from the developer's GitHub. All official builds for every platform are collected on happ.su.

INCY. A single App Store listing covers iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV and is available with a Russian Apple ID. Android — Google Play and the APK from GitHub. The full download list is on incy.cc.

How to add a Buzz VPN subscription

The steps are the same: copy the subscription link from the bot → tap "+" in the app → "Paste from clipboard" → "Connect". Both clients support QR import and direct links from the bot, refresh the server list automatically and show the subscription expiry.

For a Buzz VPN user the extra protocols don't matter — our subscription runs over VLESS. The real differences are elsewhere: INCY has a kill switch (if the VPN drops, traffic won't leak onto the open network), while Happ has iPhone battery-saving settings and a more flexible routing builder. Details are in the Happ and INCY documentation.

Privacy: what the clients collect

Both developers say on their home pages that they collect no data. The documents are more specific.

  • Happ's privacy policy lists crash reports and screen analytics via Sentry, plus a device identifier sent in subscription headers (this can be turned off in settings).
  • INCY's README on GitHub mentions Firebase Crashlytics in mobile builds; the Data safety section on Google Play lists collection of device identifiers. The policy is at incy.cc/privacy.

Neither developer publishes the source code of the app itself — the Happ-proxy and INCY-DEV repositories hold only builds and documentation; only the Xray engine is open. Worth knowing, but the situation is the same for both.

In April 2026 a researcher published on Habr an analysis of a vulnerability in several clients, Happ among them: a local proxy without authentication and an exposed service API. Judging by Happ's iOS version history, both issues were fixed in April. INCY was not part of the study — which means "not tested", not "safe".

TVs and computers

Apple TV. Happ has a separate app with simplified routing rules; the subscription is transferred from the phone by QR code. INCY offers a "Send to TV" feature from the shared listing.

Android TV. Both clients install from Google Play. Recent Happ versions improved remote-control input; INCY reviews mention a crash when adding a server on Android TV 14.

Windows, macOS, Linux. Happ has a stable branch with TUN and system-proxy modes; builds are on GitHub. INCY itself calls its desktop version pre-alpha and warns of possible bugs.

Pros and cons

Happ

  • Pros: longer history and larger user base (10M+ installs on Google Play), mature desktop, separate Apple TV app, iPhone power saving.
  • Cons: not in the Russian App Store; a security incident in April 2026 (fixed); reviews complain that the summer 2026 routing update broke old settings.

INCY

  • Pros: available in the Russian App Store, one listing for all Apple devices, kill switch, higher Google Play rating (4.4 vs Happ's 3.9 as of 22.10.2026), frequent updates.
  • Cons: the project is under a year old, desktop is pre-alpha, complaints about Android TV and hotspot sharing, many look-alike sites, a 3.5 rating in the Russian App Store.

Verdict: which one for whom

One Buzz VPN subscription covers all your devices, so you can mix clients: INCY on iPhone, Happ on the computer. If Happ is already installed on your iPhone, don't delete it — it will keep working, but updates won't arrive through the Russian App Store.

How we checked

Data on store availability, protocols and features comes from the App Store and Google Play listings, the documentation at happ.su and docs.incy.cc, version histories and GitHub repositories — as of 22 October 2026. Store ratings are as of that date and change over time. We don't include speed or battery measurements in this article: on the same server the differences are minor and depend on the device.

FAQ

Happ disappeared from the App Store — what now? The installed app keeps working. For new installs with a Russian Apple ID, use INCY — the subscription is the same.

Can I move my subscription between clients? Yes, it's one link. Add it to the second client the same way.

The client shows no servers. The subscription didn't load. Check your connection and refresh the subscription in the app; if it happens again, copy the link from the bot once more. If that doesn't help, message support.

Do I have to pay for Happ or INCY? No — both clients are free for users, with no ads or in-app purchases.
